What a glorious day today! The weather has been very kind to us lately; lots of lovely soaking rain and now some beautiful sunshine to bask in. Someone once told me that “you need to find the joy in everyday” and today it was very easy. The kids revelled in the warm winter sun and the puddles to play in today. Hopefully there will be more to come.

Today we will conduct our parent teacher interviews in the new COVID safe format. It is far from ideal to showcase the good work that most of our students have produced but it will satisfy any questions, queries or issues you may have about your child’s learning. Teachers are very keen to speak to as many parents as possible because this partnership is vital in nurturing the best skills and results for our students. Please contact the school if you missed the opportunity and we will work to provide an alternative exchange of information if required.

All students and staff are adjusting to school life with the cloud of COVID hanging over us all. We are maintaining our rigorous cleaning, disinfecting and sanitising to help prevent the spread of the virus. We are also very appreciative of the many families who erred on the side of good judgement and have been tested if they were in hotspot areas or have been unwell with many of the symptoms of COVID. Thankfully, at this time, all tests have been negative. We pray that we will be spared the necessity of shutdowns and a return to remote learning. We will endeavour to keep you up-to-date with the latest directives and guidance. Already many of our “normal” activities have had to be reconsidered and re-thought. There is, for this term at least, no overnight excursions, no kinder orientation, no parent assistance with reading groups, minimal external adult visitors and no gatherings of large groups of staff or adults (including attendance at assemblies). Catholic Schools NSW have issued a long list of directives for all our schools and we are busy ensuring we comply with all of the recommendations to keep our community safe and well.

Another of our “regular” activities for Term 3– the Infants Swimming Program -  will also be put on hold until further notice due to access restrictions imposed by Cootamundra/Gundagai Shire Council. We hope that we may be able to offer this important program before the end of the year but we will keep you informed as decisions and recommendations are made. However, we are taking expressions of interest for the Mortimer Shield and the Boorowa Touch and Netball so that we can gauge how we cater and provide transport, as parents are discouraged from attending to minimise gatherings of adults. Please look for these notes in coming days.

Time stops for nothing and especially not COVID. Our Year 10 students are still very busy preparing for a life beyond Sacred Heart. Tomorrow we will have the Principal of Hennessy Catholic College and the Dean of Students come to present a subject selection overview for Year 11 2021. Regardless of the school that our students choose to attend next year the information about subjects is standard for all HSC and VET courses. All Year 10 will receive the information so that they can make informed choices for next year. Also, last week our Year 10 Mock Trial team competed against Oxley College Bowral in the NSW competition via Zoom. Whilst this was not as “real” as competing face-to-face it did allow our team the opportunity to show off their skills and understanding. Despite winning the case we were narrowly defeated in the overall trial. The students were impressive in their attitude, effort and skills. We will compete against The Riverina Anglican College in Round 2 in coming weeks. The team consisted of: Emily Bodycott, Jordan Beath, Laura Ward, Will English, Claudia McLeod, Malachi Murray, Piper Scott and Maddi Gillies. They were a credit to themselves and their families in the way they prepared and conducted themselves.

Remember, if you have to choose between being extraordinary and kind - be extraordinarily kind! Kindness makes you the most beautiful person in the world, no matter what you look like!

Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
