NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK
This week we acknowledge National Reconciliation Week. NRW is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme of the 2019 National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is Grounded in Truth: Walk Together with Courage. Reconciliation Australia’s Chief Executive Officer, Karen Mundine, said that trust and truth is the basis for all strong, equitable relationships.
“Reconciliation is ultimately about relationships and like all effective relationships the one between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians must be grounded in truth,” she said. “There can be no trust without an honest, open conversation about our history.”
At Sacred Heart we are blessed to have a proud group of Wiradjuri students who stand together to recognise their culture, history and future. Likewise, we as a community are very proud of their sense of identity and willingness to work with others to help them to understand the importance and value of their culture.
ADOPT A FARMER – COMMUNITY BREAKFAST & UNIFORM FREE
Tomorrow morning from 8am we are having our Community Breakfast in the secondary playground. We would love you to join us for a feast of sausages and hash browns. It is also our fundraising venture to support the farmers and drought relief. Students are encouraged to wear “rural attire” – flannels and jeans for the cost of a gold coin donation.
MERCY MASS
This week we are celebrating the first of our House Masses where we hope to see as many students and staff from Mercy House to the vigil mass this Saturday night at 5pm. We hope lots of families will join with the Parish to celebrate community. At the conclusion of Mass there will be a light supper provided consisting of hot soup and bread to share with the parishioners. Please join us! You do not have to be in Mercy House to come along to share the mass.
STAFFING
Over the term we have and will continue to experience a few slight adjustments to staffing. In Stage 1GH Mrs Heather Hunt is now teaching four days, Monday to Thursday and Mrs Kathryn Wakeford will continue to teach on Fridays. Mrs Thompson will assume a greater role with Pastoral Care and her Stage 1Science classes will be taken by Miss Kaitlin Hudson on a Monday. Kaitlin is currently one of our trusted casual teachers and it will be lovely to have her in a more permanent role over the course of the year.
ENROLMENT REMINDER
Another reminder if you are planning to or know of anyone who is planning to enrol their children for 2020 to consider completing the online form sooner rather than later to assist us with our planning. The Catholic Education Office have standardised the enrolment information for all schools across the diocese and it now takes the form of an online enrolment process. If you login to our school website www.shcoota.nsw.edu.au in the top banner there is a link to Enrolment Information. There is a button to click on right at the bottom of the screen that will take you to the online enrolment system. We have finalised our dates for the Kinder 2020 Information and you will below a list of all the dates for Orientation for Kinder enrolments.
ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
At this stage we hope to be able to forge ahead with our Athletics Carnival this Thursday 30 May at Albert Park. Obviously, we will be watching the weather very closely to gauge whether it will be a successful day. We will wait until late Wednesday afternoon to make a final decision. We will notify the school community as soon as a decision is made. Everyone is most welcome and it is always a delightful community day with the emphasis on participation, team spirit rather than winning and competitiveness. If you are able to assist then we would love to hear from you.
