Well we made it. It has been a huge term. We have done so much, achieved so much and we have an excellent platform to build on in Term 2.
Thank you to all staff, students and community members who have made contributions to the success of this term. No term is ever perfect but there were so many successes and so many ways to learn about how to improve. This is our goal for Term 2 - to build on Term 1 successes and to improve in all other areas. While we strive to be the best we can, it is all about being better than we were yesterday. It is always a good day when you learn something!
Today we will view the latest instalment of the Passion Play re-enactment. Mr Dan O’Brien and Mrs Thompson have been devoted to preparing the students to lead this beautiful prayer. Please join us next Friday at 3pm for the Good Friday Service. This reminds us so poignantly that this is the very reason for our faith to share in the true message of Easter. Sacred Heart’s Passion of Our Lord is a sacred tradition which was introduced to our community more than 30 years ago by Sr Kathy. Each year our Year 9 students enact the story of our Lord’s passion and death. These creative students bring to each Passion Play their own sense of reverence, prayer and unique interpretations. In this enactment the students engage in prayerful presentation rather than an emphasis on performance. As they move through the events of the Lord’s Passion may we all come to a deeper understanding of His immense act of love for us.
Day One Term 2
A reminder that Day One Term 2 29 April is a Staff Professional Learning Day and the students do not return to school until Tuesday 30 April. On the Monday we will host over 100 teachers from around the diocese to learn about the Challenging Learning Model to improve student outcomes and differentiation. Students will return in the winter uniform (with two weeks’ grace).
Sacred Heart Central School Alumni
Sacred Heart continues to make memories and it is wonderful how the memories all weave together. This week we are utilising the many skills of one of our past students to coach our newest Mock Trial team. Mr John Grant who graduated from Sacred Heart in 2005 is home before he moves to London for the next two years. John has been a prosecutor in Victoria and is a highly experienced litigator. He is pictured with his niece Rose Dickinson of Early Stage 1Mi. Sacred Heart has always had such wonderful students who can go onto to do amazing things and change the world. Once a Sacred Heart kid, always a Sacred Heart kid!
House Points Winner Term One!
O’Shaughnessy were the victorious house for Term One in the tally of House Points. The total number of Gotchas (Primary) and House Points (Secondary) had O’Shaughnessy House just in front of the other two houses. Our award system acknowledges students who go over and above in daily activities or class work to make Sacred Heart a wonderful place. They assist, volunteer, are kind, supportive and generous young people. O’Shaughnessy enjoyed a hot chip lunch as the winners for Term One!
NAPLAN - Week 3 Term 2 14th, 15th and 16th May
Over the past weeks all eligible students for Naplan testing have been a part of the demonstration tests to familiarise them with the process and function of the online platform. Attached to this newsletter is a parent letter detailing the specifics regarding the requirements and support available. Please read carefully and contact the school, either myself, Mrs Thompson or Mrs Cohen, if you have any concerns with your child particpating in the testing program and the way we can support their efforts. All considerations must be lodged by 3 May.
Thank you!
An enormous thank you to our staff for all their efforts this term. They are committed, dedicated and skilled in ensuring that our students have some of the very best opportunities. To look back over the claendar for Term One makes you realise how much we ask of our staff; excursions, meetings, Professional learning, Information Evenings, Discos and the list goes on. We are so blessed to have staff who are professional and caring in all that they strive to do. Mrs maxwell will be enjoying some well-deserved leave for the first four weeks of Term 2. Mrs Natalee Litchfield will take on the added responsibility of Acting REC in her absence. Mrs Litchfield will also be responsible for all sporting ventures in the first four weeks.
ANZAC DAY
Sacred Heart has always had a strong contingent to mark ANZAC Day by joining in the march on 25 April. We would love to see as many students as possible make the effort to march in memory of all that our brave servicemen and women have done for our wonderful country. There will be a choice of uniform (but normal uniform exepctations apply) given the changeable weather but all students will need to bring a hat. We will meet at 10.15 outside the Ex-Services Club. Staff will be there to guide the students.
P & F
Another important thank you must be given to our hardworking P & F. the outgoing Office Bearers have left an impressive legacy that our new Executive have taken on with enthusiastic fervous. The Fete was a wonderful financial success and community activity. Many of the left over prizes from the chocolate wheel will be raffled over the coming months beginning with the Mother’s Day raffle. See attached flyer. At $2 a ticket it is your best chance of securing an impressive gift for your mother with 4 great prizes. It will be drawn on 10th May in time for Mother’s Day.
