It is hard to believe that we are in the final term for 2024. The year has passed by so quickly and the end-of-the year will be here before we know it. We have been busy with preparations for 2025 for many months now so hopefully we will have time to savour the final term and all that it offers before 2025 is upon us.
Staff and students are also in the stages of preparing for final assessments and examinations over the coming weeks. All students will be involved in the PAT testing in the first weeks and then we will move into the more formal examination periods for the secondary students beginning with Exam week for Year 10 beginning the 11th November. Please be mindful of the assessment period when booking appointments. Years 7-9 will begin the week 18th November.
Currently our Year 8 students are enjoying the final moments of their trip to the South Coast. According to all reports the students were outstanding in their behaviour, enthusiasm and involvement. Hopefully they all managed to get some sleep and had a fabulous time. We thank Ms Buchanan, Mr Alderman and Ms Moore for being part of the trip and offering the students this wonderful experience.
There are still so many different events to come as we look at the Term 4 calendar. Today we celebrate the Traditions Day Mass which recognises the traditions on which our school is built. We acknowledge the contributions and passions of the Srs of Mercy and the De La Salle Brothers who founded our wonderful school. We also acknowledge the different priests who have led our community over so many years. As always we also celebrate with a sausage sizzle. Fr Lolesio does love a good sausage sizzle. Our cricketers will be travelling to Goulburn to revive our efforts in representative cricket when we compete in the Berg Shield next week. Most of our primary students will travel to Boorowa for the annual Touch and Netball Carnival next Friday and we have 6 First Nations students travelling to Melbourne to be part of the WEHI Deadly Science program for the whole week. These are only a few of the opportunities that are on offer in the first two weeks.
We wish all our ex-Sacred Heart students the very best as they begin their examinations for the HSC. We pray that they are able to achieve to the best of their ability in all their exams and as they embark on the next stage of their lives. Once a Sacred Heart kid always a Sacred Heart kid and we will always be interested in what they do, become and achieve.
The transition programs continue again this term. We have the Year 7 2025 cohort returning next Tuesday (22nd October) for another day of life in the Secondary. And our Kindergarten 2025 students will spend the next two Thursdays (24th and 31 October) becoming increasingly familiar with the routines and expectations of Big School.
We welcome back Mr Niddrie who has returned from paternity leave, after a glorious 10 weeks of being a stay-at-home dad. It is wonderful to have him back in the classroom.
Hopefully next week we will finally be able to stage the much-anticipated Science Fair for 2024. It has been scheduled for 2pm on Wednesday 23 October in the Infants playground. We look forward to seeing you there.
The refurbishment of the Primary building is progressing nicely. Nearly all the engineering work has been completed and the interior demolition is finished. There have been some interesting discoveries along the way; a sub standard floor in the entry way, a family of pigeon carcasses in the chimney, names of students written behind the whiteboards and a whole trove of other ‘treasures’. The verandah should be underway next week which will allow the windows to be removed and replaced by doors. It is all very exciting and we look forward to a beautiful new space. Hopefully we will have some pictures to show soon.
Remember if you can be anything - BE KIND!
God Bless
Ms Nicky Trinder
