From the Secondary Coordinator
This week we are very aware of those in our community that are experiencing the grief associated with losing loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Deep, Northey, Lyne and Trinder families. Times of loss are often also times where we remember and share our joyous memories and connect with those we haven’t seen for some time. They remind us also to take the time to appreciate and reach out to those we do have and love.
Week 2 has also been a time of exciting new beginnings. Our Kinder and Secondary Transition programs both saw an influx of excited children preparing for a new chapter in their lives and we welcome, especially, the new families that have joined us. We also thank our tirelessly enthusiastic and committed staff who have been involved in making these experiences enjoyable for our students.
Year 8 are currently away on the coast enjoying the beautiful weather and learning to work together to overcome challenges and again we are grateful to the teachers who put in extra time and effort to ensure our students have these opportunities. Our Year 9’s are planning and writing their Leadership Speeches in anticipation for their role as seniors and school leaders in 2024. Year 10 are in sight of the finish line and are preparing for Week 5 exams, work placement and of course, the all important Graduation. Calls have gone out to Year 10 parents to support the Year 10’s final fundraiser, running the canteen at our reinstituted Annual Touch Carnival. If you have a student in Year 10 and are able to help either in the canteen or through donating food, drinks or ice blocks please contact Erryn Marsay.
October is a significant month for our partners at CARITAS and every October we raise funds to support CARITAS projects worldwide, like their project in Timor Leste, where poverty is widespread and disease and malnutrition are rife. In these countries, CARITAS work with groups like the Salesian Sisters means that regular food, vitamins and medical care are offered to those who would otherwise do without. Next Wednesday we will be holding our annual CRAZY SOCK day to raise awareness for the work of CARITAS but we will hold off fund-raising until Week 5 when we have Free Dress and our final Community breakfast.
Wise words for the week:
"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.” Dr Seuss
In all that you do this week look out for each other.

Save the date for the 10th November. After a few years being unable to run this event the Touch Carnival is scheduled for Friday the 10th November at Nicholson Park, Fisher Park and Clarke Oval. We normally have up to 60 teams in attendance, and we therefore need many referees. If you are a Year 12 student or an adult we are able to pay you for your time.
