Life is never dull in a school setting. We have had an action-packed start to the term and already we are racing towards the end of the year. Currently students across the school are immersed in assessment and preparations for examinations to finalise the learning for 2022. Teachers are also immersed in preparing for 2023. It is a very busy term and we are excited about the final months and weeks of 2022 and all the wonderful activities that will happen.
Our Year 10 students are quickly coming to the end of their journey with Sacred Heart. They have their final week of classroom instruction next week and then examinations in Week 5. Week 6 will be the traditional Beyond Sacred Heart activities that help prepare them for life beyond our playground. This is an outstanding program developed by Ms Withers and Mr Mahon. We hope that the Year 10 students make the most of this week. Week 7 and 8 are the Work Experience opportunities and this is a fabulous way for our students to finish their time with us as the final week for these students will culminate in their Graduation on Friday Week 9. We are very proud of the wonderful young people that they are and how they have been excellent leaders and an important part of our school community. Today our Year 10s have been a part of the Archdiocesan Shine conference at Merici College in Canberra promoting youth ministry and making connections with other students across the Archdiocese. Thank you to Ms Buchanan and Mrs Maxwell for accompanying the students.
Congratulations to Gillian Hunt of Year 6 who was very impressive in her presentation in the Year 6 Archdiocesan Public Speaking competition. Gill competed against students from across the entire archdiocese. She conducted herself and the school with distinction and we are very proud of her efforts. Public speaking is an invaluable skill for future endeavours and our public speaking program endeavours to make sure that all students have the capacity and skills to be confident speakers and advocates for themselves and others. Thank you to the Primary staff for their excellent program and preparation of all our students.
It has been unfortunate that in the past weeks many different activities have been cancelled due to the inclement weather. Hopefully as we move towards summer we will have more sunshine and more opportunity to be outside and enjoying a range of different extra-curricular activities.
In week 5 Ms Marsay (secondary coordinator) has the wonderful opportunity to travel to Perth with a Catholic education working party to observe the High Impact Teaching practices that are being implemented in the Western Australian schools. Ms Marsay will travel with 17 members of a working party to collaboratively consider the implications for our own school and how we can improve and develop classroom practice to better serve our community. We are always striving to make the experience for your children the very best we can offer. In line with Catholic Education bold goals for the entire Archdiocese; 1. Every student will be a competent reader and 2. High impact teaching strategies will be visible in all classrooms we are working very hard to ensure that every student in our school has every opportunity to be a successful learner.
A reminder that in the warmer terms all students are required to have a broad brimmed school hat to play and for outside activities. Please ensure that your student has their name clearly labelled in their hat to help students manage their own gear and to avoid misplaced hats.
God Bless,
Ms Nicky Trinder
Principal
Socktober
Thank you to all families for supporting the Catholic Mission Socktober fundraising on Wednesday. As a school community we have raised $486 to be donated to the Catholic Mission works in Ethiopia to support communities and families facing malnutrition and food uncertainty. Along with wearing crazy socks our students also participated in goal scoring activities lead by our older leaders.
Year 10 Shine Conference
On Friday our Year 10 students conclude their Youth Ministry Unit of work on the “Leader with in You” by participating in the Shine Conference in Canberra. Over 300 students from around the Archdiocese gather at Merci College to participate in workshops and celebrate their faith.
From the classroom
Stage 2 have been learning about the history of the Early Australian Catholic Church. Through Godly play activities the students have explored the people and events that have helped form our Catholic Tradition through out the years.

Lunchtime Volleyball Comp
The hotly contested lunchtime Volleyball competition has been full of enthusiasm and laughter this week. Thank you to the Year 9 students who stepped in to run the competition while Year 10 were away on Friday. Here are some more highlights:
Secondary Touch Carnival
On Friday the 11th November (week 5), we will again be hosting the Canberra Goulburn and Invitational Touch Carnival. COVID put a hold on the carnival for the last 2 years, so we are excited this will be able to go ahead this year.
To help with the smooth running of the day, we are seeking referees and canteen helpers.
Referees may be paid for their time and any amount of time you can spare would be greatly appreciated.
Year 10’s parents traditionally run the canteen. If you can assist with the canteen for all or part of the day, that would be fantastic.
Please contact Megan Withers or Emma Deep if you can assist. 0296422612, megan.withers@cg.catholic.edu.au, emma.deep@cg.catholic.edu.au.
