The end of another week and already we can feel the term sliding by so quickly. There is much to happen and our students are focused on making the most of what is left of 2021 and preparing for final assessments and examinations. As the state nudges closer to a total removal of all restrictions we will continue to abide by the NSW Health orders and continue with the recommended COVID-safe practices which include mandatory mask-wearing for secondary and staff, limited visitors on site, social distance, cohort organisation and social hygiene. However we have been given permission to return to regular canteen use. This is a relief because our canteen ladies have been inundated with orders using the online system and they have worked under very challenging and ‘interesting’ conditions. We thank them for their professional and committed work. Parents can continue to order online but the canteen will be open for walk-up sales and the exchange of cash. Thank you for your patience with this type of service over the past three weeks.
A reminder that if a student feels unwell during the school day it is expected that they present at the Front Office to be monitored/supervised. From here the Front Office ladies will make contact with the parent/guardian if they are required to be picked up or assessed by their parents. We do not want the students to be texting and contacting home to be picked up without the Front Office being aware that there is an issue. This is a Catholic Education directive so that at all times a student who is unwell is under the care of a trained staff member and to ensure that their symptoms are attended to until such time as the parent can collect them. Especially in these COVID times we need to keep accurate records of students who present with COVID-like symptoms.
School photos will be taken this coming TUESDAY 19th OCTOBER. All students are expected to follow normal school expectations around uniform, including hair, makeup and jewellery. Students will need to wear the full summer uniform and return their payment envelopes if they have not ordered online. Details have been sent home regarding ID cards and family photos.
We have been given permission to conduct our transition and orientation programs for Kindergarten and Year 7 2022. This is wonderful news because these programs are an important strategy to help our new students become familiar and comfortable in their new school surroundings. Invitations and information will be sent home early next week but we are hopeful that we will be able to host 3 sessions for each group.
KINDERGARTEN 2022 – Wednesday 10 November, Wednesday 17 November and Wednesday 24 November
YEAR 7 2022 - Thursday 28 October, Wednesday 10 November and Thursday 25 November.
Hopefully in coming weeks the beautiful weather will return and we can enjoy a gentle spring. Students are reminded that hats are a mandatory component of the uniform and they are required to have the school bucket hat with them for all outdoor activities and break times.
Today we had two students represent the school, virtually, in the Western Region Primary Public Speaking Finals. Gillian Hunt Year 5 and Lucinda Shields Year 6 were outstanding in their presentations. Both Gillian and Lucy were successful in moving on to the Archdiocesan Finals, at a date yet to be decided. We thank the girls for their commitment and efforts and wish them every success in the final round. I promptly received an email from the adjudicator who was duly impressed with both girls;
Both Gillian and Lucy did a spectacular job and Lucy came first in year 6 and will go through with a student from Young. Gillian tied for first with a girl from Grenfell for year 5.
Both girls are a credit to their teachers, parents and themselves and were fabulous; their content was original and had all the requisites of humour, empathy and pathos that made for fantastic speeches.
Thank you to the staff and parents who helped prepare the students and to Mr Winsor who coordinated our school and regional competition.
God Bless! Stay well.
