VALE Fr Kevin Barry Cotter – Rest in Peace

Over the weekend we learnt the very sad news that Fr Kevin had passed away in his sleep on his beloved farm in Adelong. We were very privileged to have him serve our school and community for nearly 10 years. He was a man of wisdom, compassion, humility, integrity and faith. He was a pastor and a teacher. He was a leader and a friend.  He was an amazing man, whose mission was to make memories, to serve his God and to live a life of faith. His legacy lives on in so many ways in our school. His words of wisdom continue to echo around our school and his love for his mission in our school was inspiring. His contribution to Catholic Education in our Archdiocese is legendary and he was a true man of God. Fr Kevin had told us that “it was not his place to judge people, he simply pastored and left the judging to God.” We will miss him. As he used to say, “Go gently now!” Funeral details have not been confirmed yet but we will forward times and dates as they come to hand. Please keep his family and friends in your prayers.

This week we farewell Mrs Chesworth as she begins her new adventure. We look forward to seeing all the photos and one day meeting her little person. We wish her every blessing and happiness. Mrs Carol MacIver and Mrs Stacey Fry are very excited about taking on the responsibility for Stage 1C. We welcome Mrs MacIver to our staff and know that she will love being a part of our community.

Next Friday 12 March is our Biannual Fete. It is a major fundraiser to help resource our classrooms and to continue to provide for our students and staff. We hope that you can find time to spend with us and even maybe, help out on the night. If you are able to help please contact the school or Mrs Nancy Smith or Mrs Sharon Williams. It promises to be an excellent family and community evening with lots to do and lots to eat. Please remember to send in the items requested from the different class/year groups to help us with chocolate wheel prizes or lolly bags and drinks. Next Monday 8 March will be the final Fete meeting before the evening and it will follow the P & F AGM. This is an important meeting to set future directions and to elect Office bearers for the year. Please give some thought to contributing to this wonderful group of dedicated parents.

Our Year 9 students are busily preparing for the Passion Play presentation on Good Friday. Mrs Maxwell and Mr Turner are devoting hours to ensuring that this year’s presentation is prayerful and inspiring. The presentation will take place on Thursday 1 April at 10am for the school community and at 11am on 2 April for the Parish community. Please note that the times have changed this year from the traditional 3pm presentation at the Good Friday service.

Already the term is flying past and there are lots of events happening. Our students are enthusiastically embracing all the activities on offer and striving to make the most of class time. Remember that it is very important that students are at school every day and that you communicate with the school if they are away for unavoidable reasons. Attendance is still our major focus and we are intent on improving the percentage of students who are present in the classroom each and every day. Please contact us in the first instance if there is a reason why your child/ren are not coming to school.

March 2 is recognised as National Be Kind Day. Hopefully at Sacred Heart every day is Be Kind Day. It does not cost anything to be kind and the difference it can make to someone’s day cannot be underestimated. There is always time to be kind. Kind is the new cool!!!

Remember, if you have to choose between being extraordinary or kind, be extraordinarily kind!

FETE CONTRIBUIONS - PRIMARY & SECONDARY

Infants and Primary have been asked to donate chocolate, lollies and drinks for stalls and the BBQ.

Secondary students have been asked to contribute items to a hamper representing each Year group. These will form part of the prizes on offer from the Chocolate Wheel. We are also seeking baked goods for sale at the Cake stall (traditionally one of our best sellers). Baked goods may be left at the Front Office on the morning of Friday 12 March for pricing. 

If you are able to help support this please send in an item or items to represent the following asap:

Kindy: 200g Block of Chocolate, any flavour is fine.

Year 1 & 2: Different bags of Lollies.

Stage 2 & 3: Drinks ( Soft Drinks, Fruit Boxes and Water).

Year 7: Outdoor and more (gardening, BBQ etc). 

Year 8: Sporting World  - magazines, balls, games etc.

Year 9: Homewares - picture frames, cushion, kitchen utensils, candle, vase etc.

Term 1 Week 6

Primary Sport

Congratulations to the Primary students who qualified for the Primary Canberra Goulburn Carnival and swam in Narooma yesterday Monday, 1st March. Results will be posted soon.

Triathlon 

Congratulations to all our Primary students who participated in a very wet yet successful Triathlon, due to the weather conditions we were unable to take any photos. Thank you to all the parents who came along to cheer, and who brought in bikes.  

Primary Swimming

Please remember that this Thursday 5th March is our last day for primary swimming. Don't forget your swimmers, money (or pass), rashie and towel. 

Gala day notes

All Gala day notes for netball, rugby and AFL are due back to school by Friday 6th March. If you missed any of these notes for whatever reason please ask for a replacement note.

CSNSW Sport and is the responsibility of individual families.

Secondary Sport

Open Girls League Tag 

The Open’s team competed in Young last Tuesday. The team played 3 games. Even though the competition was very tough the girls played extremely well together as a team. Frankie Scott was awarded Player of the Day. The results are as follows. Hennessey 2 loss 24 nil. Coota High loss 8 to 4 and Boorowa Central School loss 4 nil.

The team consisted of:

Tayla Collins, Alana Lewis, Ellie Miller, Isabella Kingwill, Zara English, Alex Oliver, Isabelle Cowin, India Bodycott, Emily Annetts, Frankie Scott, Lily Deep and Sasha Louttit.

Triathlon

This Friday the Secondary will compete in the Triathlon. This will be a house point competition with many options to contribute to house champion. There will be a division for Individuals and House Teams, with all participants receiving points toward their house total. A note will go home this week.

Swimming Carnival Results

After each carnival we go through all the calculations and results to make sure we have everything right. Unfortunately with a complicated system, there was a miscalculation. The overall placings were unchanged however, one age division was affected. So my apologies and congratulations go to Jake Winsor, who is awarded equal Runner-Up Age Champion for the Intermediate Boys.

Pool

Swimming for PE, Sport, Swimming Carnival and Triathlon - Change to payment method - The $30 noted in the letter that went home was an approximate cost for all pool visits for the term. You do not need to pay $30 up front. Teachers will record when students attend the pool (including the Swimming Carnival and Triathlon events) and families will be invoiced at the end of the swimming season. If this is a concern to you please get in contact with Ms Withers as soon as possible.
