Friday’s pastoral lesson in Secondary:

Each Friday the secondary students have a thirty minute pastoral lesson with their roll call class. This term we have begun a pastoral rotation where students work with different staff on areas that will assist them in navigating school life.

Mr Mahon covers careers and All My Own Work modules required by NESA for Year 10. Mrs Gale upskills the students on the finer workings of the Google Suite; Mrs Buchanan is teaching online safety and maintenance for all settings, whether app to web based; Mr Turner is working on Team Building skills, Mr Roberts & Mrs Witenden are teaching effective study skills and Mrs Thompson is covering cyberbullying and online safety.

Online Safety - Cyberbullying from Kirra Safe on Social.

Over the last two weeks 7S have been learning about Cyberbullying in its various forms. The attached worksheets cover some of the material the students are unpacking and discussing.

Over the coming weeks students will learn what online activities and behaviours are legal and illegal. The attached link to the e-safety Commissioner website is an excellent source of information for parents, students and teachers. It has age appropriate sections and covers the myriad of issues like bystanders; violent or inappropriate content; receiving or sending unwanted material; digital reputation; unwanted contact; fake news, protecting your identity and trolling.

In pastoral classes we will also be upskilling the students around what is sexting and what students should do if they or a friend comes across material they are unsure about. If you have any concerns around this material, please contact Mrs Thompson at school.

If you have any concerns in regards to online safety that is impacting on your child's learning at school please contact your child’s Pastoral Care Advisor or Mrs Thompson at school during school hours.
