From the Principal

Last week Mr Mahon’s Year 7 RE class depicted our Sacred Heart family on the secondary chalk boards. They captured the essence of what our mission at Sacred Heart is; to support each other and grow together. Fr Lolesio talked at length in his opening homily that our community depends on each other but we had a responsibility to grow and be prosperous in our relationships, our talents and our faith. We are indeed a family that rises by lifting others.

Next week will see the beginning of Lent as we prepare for Easter and the special, sacred time of Holy Week. Traditionally we hold our Ash Wednesday Mass at 10am. This is to be followed by Rice Day, where we try to restrict ourselves to eating only one bowl of rice for the day and share the experience that many children around the world live every day. More details will be sent home next week.

As this is also the last Wednesday of the month we will shift our first Community Breakfast to Tuesday 25 February and share in pancakes on Shrove Tuesday at 8am. It will also be the first uniform free day for the year. Normal uniform expectations of sunsafe and appropriate clothing still apply (especially if you require leather shoes for TAS or sports shoes for PE). Project Compassion boxes will also be sent home to each family as a way of generously supporting Caritas and appreciating all the blessings we often take for granted.

Last Friday Ms Kaitlin Hudson (3NGA) was inducted as an Early Career Teacher into the Canberra Goulburn diocese. Kaitlin, along with many other new career teachers were recognised as being important to the future and viability of our Catholic schools and we are blessed to have such inspiring young teachers make a commitment to their vocation of teaching.  Monsignor Woods spoke of teaching as a calling to serve and recognised that all our teachers have a mission to lead young people in their faith and education. We are indeed blessed to have such an amazing teaching staff and please continue to pray for our teachers that they maintain the stamina and passion in what they do every day.

Congratulations to all our Primary swimmers who competed in Harden yesterday at the Western Region carnival. We were only narrowly defeated as the Champion School by St Mary’s, Young. Please take the time to read the Sport Report from Mrs Litchfield that recognises our swimmers. People in attendance were impressed with the enthusiasm and participation of all our swimmers and we will send a strong contingent onto the Narooma Carnival in a couple of weeks.

Thank you to all our Year 10 parents and students who came along last night to the Information Session regarding Year 10 ROSA expectations and other pertinent details for the important year ahead. If you missed the evening please make contact Ms Marsay who put together the excellent presentation for all the relevant information including the invaluable assessment booklet. Mrs Kathy Holding also spoke briefly at the end of the evening about the pathway to Stage 6 at Hennessy. She is very keen to strengthen the ties between our school and Young as a viable, preferable and doable option for Years 11 and 12. Traditionally our students have been very settled and successful in their senior studies and Mrs Holding welcomes anyone who would like more information, a tour or a chat to make contact. The Hennessy Open Day will be held on 26 May and more details will be made available closer to the date.

Every year the Australian Government Department of Education and Training collect student residential addresses for all non-government schools. (Similar information was collected in March 2019, as part of the Government’s requirement to provide additional information which includes the names and residential addresses of parents and/or guardians). Please note that student names will be de-identified. Please read the attached “2020 Student residential and Other Information Collection Notice” advising of the purpose and process of the collection.

This week we strive to ‘Learn, Lead and Live ‘ in all we do at school, to give our very best to rise by lifting others.

Remember if you have to choose between being exceptional or kind, be exceptionally kind!

God Bless

Mrs Nicky Trinder
