From the Principal

Summer is here with a vengeance!!! Over the coming weeks the weather will continue to oscillate but we are enforcing the wearing of hats at all times and encourage the students to stay hydrated at all times. Please ensure that all students have a school bucket hat with their name embroidered inside. It promises to be a long hot term if this weather pattern continues but hopefully we will be distracted by the many busy and exciting things we have planned for the term.

Our Year 9 students are currently enjoying the sights and sounds of Sydney under the careful eye of Mr Mahon, Mrs Thompson and Mrs Cusack. This morning they were part of the Sunrise audience and met the Sunrise crew at the end of the morning broadcast. Mr Mahon reports that the train trip to Sydney was smooth even if it was late arriving and that they got ample sleep. Tonight they will experience a Harbour Cruise and tomorrow they will visit the fabulous Jewish Museum. Hopefully they will be privileged enough to listen to the inspirational Eddie Jaku. We wish them a wonderful time making memories over the coming week. Our Year 8 students depart tomorrow for the South Coast with Mrs Murray, Mr Alderman and Mrs Gale. Safe travels!

Assistant Principal 2020

It is with great pleasure that I can announce that Mrs Katie Thompson has been appointed as the Assistant Principal for Sacred Heart in a continuing status from 2020. Congratulations to Katie on her promotion and we wish her every blessing in this new role. We will now be undertaking interviews for the Religious Education Coordinator in coming weeks along with all of the primary and secondary positions for 2020.

Colour Run 2019

A huge thank you to the wonderful P & F committee who organised the Colour Run last Friday night. It proved to be a lovely mild night with lots of laughter and fellowship. The BBQ tea capped off a memorable evening. It looks like we raised between $2500 and $3000 for additional resources for our school. A special thank you to Mrs Mel Finnigan who coordinated the event and her many helpers. Thank you to the staff who supported the evening and all the students and their families and friends who joined with us. Bring on 2020!

O’Shaughnessy Mass 2 Nov

We will hold our final House Mass on Saturday 2 November at 6pm. This Mass is to be led by the students and staff of O’Shaughnessy. These masses have proved to be a huge success with so many more students and their families joining with the Parish in the Eucharist and then in an evening meal. At the conclusion of this Mass there will be a light BBQ tea for everyone on the secondary lawn beside the library. We hope to see lots of students and their families.

Absence from School

A quick reminder that any absence from school for however long, be it one hour or one month, it is a legal requirement to send a note explaining the reasons for the absence. This is a time consuming process to update records if a lot of time has transpired between the note coming in and the absence. In the case of longer absences contacting the school before they are aware is very beneficial for all concerned, especially in terms of maintaining consistency of the student workload. Please contact the Front Office if you have any questions.

Year 10 2019

As Mr Roberts would say, “we are coming to the pointy end of the year!” Year 10 are in the final stages of their journey at Sacred Heart. In the coming weeks they will finalise their academic courses in preparation for their final exams in week 5. We hope they are spending quality time preparing and revising for these examinations and using their class time wisely so that they can leave Sacred Heart with ROSA credentials of which they can be proud. After their exams they will participate in the annual ‘Beyond Sacred Heart’ program which has been very successful at preparing our students for a life beyond our walls. This is followed by 2 weeks of work experience and then completing First Aid qualifications. Their year will conclude on Friday 13th with the Graduation mass and dinner. There is so much for them to look forward to but the next few weeks should be devoted to completing their Stage 5 education in the very best fashion. We wish them every possible success and blessing as they complete this final term at our school.

Go gently and if you can be anything…be kind!

God Bless

Mrs Nicky Trinder

Principal
