From the Principal

Spring is coming!

The last few days of winter have been delightful weather and we are looking forward to the coming of Spring. Already we have sufferers of hay fever sneezing and spluttering as the wattle bursts forth. To herald the coming of Spring we invite all students to join us at the Wattle Time Parade on Saturday 31 August for the march at 12noon. We would love as many students as possible ll school uniform) to promote our wonderful school by walking as a group down the main street. More information will be sent out in the coming days regarding where and when to meet. I hope to see you there.

 Work of the Week

This week’s award is because of an exceptional piece of art work in Year 7 TAS. Mischa Boxsell was required to draw a bird’s eye view of the school yard and, as you can see from her sketching, it is an impressive representation of the school block with great attention to detail. Congratulations to Mischa!

BOOK WEEK

Our school’s participation in this year’s Book Week celebrations was definitely a very proud moment. Our children and staff were resplendent in their character costumes. The effort that went into some of the costumes had to be seen to be believed. Thank you to everyone for their support of everything books! Please see Mrs Gehrig’s report below and some of the wonderful photos.

YEAR 7 2020 TRANSITION

This week we will welcome the newest secondary cohort for 2020. There is a full day’s agenda prepared by Ms Marsay to allow all students to experience the variety of a secondary day. There will be a range of demonstration lessons, some get-to-know-you activities and tasks designed to familiarise students with what is expected in a secondary setting. We look forward to meeting new faces and showing them all the wonderful things we have to offer. If you know of anyone who may like to see, first-hand, what we have to offer then they are most welcome to join us from 8.50am in the secondary playground.

COMMUNITY BREAKFAST and UNIFORM FREE – 28 August

Tomorrow we will have our first community breakfast for Term 3 from 8am until 8.40. We hope that you can join us for a breakfast of sausages and hot milo (please bring your own cup to help save the planet!!!!! This also signals that it is a uniform free day and our Student leaders have dedicated this month’s fundraising to the drought efforts. Please remember it is a gold coin donation and suitable clothing for all practical and PE lessons.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

We are again in the throes of the Public Speaking competition for the Archdiocese. We have conducted our local trials and have now selected students to represent Sacred Heart against St Anne’s Temora on the 4th August here at school. Finalists from this speak off with then compete at a Western Region final to be held at Sacred Heart on the 9th September (please note there has been a change in date because of a clash with Mackillop Cricket). Ultimately the grand final will be held in Boorowa on the 20th September for the whole Archdiocese. The calibre of the speeches that I have seen was so overwhelming that I could not believe that primary students were able to construct and deliver such powerful performances. Once again our students have risen to the challenges and exceeded all expectations. This was the general theme for all speeches across Stage 2 and 3. Congratulations to all those who devoted time and energy to making their speeches so impressive.

FATHER’S DAY STALL

A gentle reminder that this Friday 30th August will be the Father’s Day stall. Students will have an opportunity to purchase a gift for the important men in their lives. The students will be rostered on to visit the stall in the library throughout the day.

P & F TRIVIA

Our hard working P & F are once again planning an event to raise funds for school resources. Mrs Deep has organised a night of fun and frivolity for the whole family on 13 September. We will be hosting a trivia night at the S & C Club at a cost of $10 for an adult and $5 for secondary aged students. It promises to be a wonderful community night and we hope lots of people support it as it is the main fundraiser for this term. Tickets are available from the Front office. Please organise a table of 10 friends to support out school.

ENROLMENTS

As we race towards the end of the year we are very aware of enrolment numbers as we prepare for 2020. If you know of anyone who is interested in enrolling please encourage them to call the Front Office to set up an appointment to see what we can offer them. We have an amazing school and our students are our greatest assets.

SATISFACTION SURVEY

The results of the Annual School Satisfaction Survey have been returned to the school. Thank you to all those who took the time to keep us informed about what we do well, where we could improve or offer any suggestions to further develop what we offer. There were many informative responses and very valid suggestions, we will be taking some time to consider how we address student, parent and staff input. Stay tuned!!!
