From the Principal

Despite the days growing longer there is still does not seem that there is enough time in the day for all the wonderful things that are happening at Sacred Heart. We have so many staff and students involved in a myriad of challenging activities that it is hard to keep up with all the successes and achievements. Last Friday we had the highly entertaining 1GA assembly where our Year 2 students showcased their commitment to challenging learning activities and their preparedness to take risks with their learning. We also congratulated all the award winners who were acknowledged for their positive efforts and contributions in the classroom and school community. Please see the photos below.

NED is coming!!!

This week NED is coming to visit our primary students with his message of positive thought and wellbeing. He will be in the Infants breakout space at 9.15am on Wednesday morning spreading his mindset mission and promoting excellent habits. The performance is free but yo-yo's (promoting the message) are available to purchase for 1 week after. They will be available at lunchtime and range in price from $8 to the professional ball-bearing yo yo for $20.

SHINE - Student gathering

Tomorrow our Year 10 students will travel to Canberra with Mrs Thompson, Ms Marsay and Mrs Maxwell to be part of the diocesan celebration for our region’s young people. This program is designed to encourage students to be open to developing their own personal relationship with Jesus Christ. IT is also a great opportunity for young people across the Archdiocese to come together, be encouraged and learn from each other as well as build relationships outside of their school community. We thank Catholic Education for financially supporting this opportunity.

GRANDPARENTS LITURGY

This Friday 9th August our Infants students will lead the whole school in a special liturgy celebrating the wonderful role that grandparents can play in our lives. Please join us at 11.45am for Fr Joshy’s last liturgy with us as school community. We thank our Infants teachers for their efforts in preparing our littlest students.

UNIFORM FREE DAY

Last week we held two fundraising events for the nominated charities of the Kidney Kar rally and Beanies for Brain Cancer. A combined total of nearly $700 was distributed between the two charities. We thank our school community for their awesome generosity. It is another wonderful trait of our school that they genuinely care and are prepared to be generous in their giving.

YEAR 7 2020 INFORMATION EVENING 5.30PM 6 August

TONIGHT at 5.30pm in Rooms 7/8 we hope to welcome the newest cohort for 2020 into our secondary school. Ms Marsay will lead an informative evening highlighting all the wonderful things we have on offer for Years 7 – 10. If you are intending to transition into Year 7 we would love to see you and if you know of anyone who is interested in joining us in 2020 then please give them the details or tell them to contact the school. The P & F will supply a light BBQ supper at the end of the presentation.

REMINDER: Satisfaction Survey

The annual satisfaction survey was launched via email very early on the morning of 29 July. It is important that we as a school community reflect on what we do well and where we can improve. We invite parents to complete the survey so that we can inform further school improvement. The survey closes on 9 August 2019. If you do not receive an email with a link to the survey, you can access and complete the survey at the following link. https://www.research.net/r/sacredheartparent2019 If you have any pressing issues we would much rather you discussed them with us so that we can bring some resolution to your concerns.

Work of the Week

This week’s award goes to three delightful young learners who are making huge strides in their development in numeracy. Jimmy Last, Kara de Belin and Aleena Haisell of ES1Mii were able to demonstrate strong numeracy skills in their class work and rose to the challenges of increasingly difficult questions. None of them shied away from the more difficult questions and are commended for their positive, risk taking attitudes to their learning.

Police Luncheon

Last Thursday our School Captains, Ellie Moorby and Isaac Tregear were invited to a luncheon hosted by the Senior Management Team of the Riverina Police District, lead by Police Commander Superintendent Bob Noble. In attendance were the Police Leaders from the District consisting of 8 Inspectors and the Local Area Manager. Both young people conducted themselves with distinction and they can be very proud of their maturity in interacting with the upper echelon of the Police department in our local area. Sacred Heart is always very proud of how our students rise to the challenge of leadership and in representing our school.

2019 SCIENCE FAIR

Keep the date free for the latest instalment of our Science Fair extravaganza. Notes went home yesterday to canvas interest in the Fair to be held on Friday 16 August. Stay tuned for more details in next week’s newsletter.

REMINDER: Personalised Plans

Don’t forget to send back the receipt if you received a copy of your child’s personalised plan. It is a requirement that you acknowledge receipt of the plan. Please contact the school if you have any questions.

P & F MEETING and UNIFORM MEETING

At last night’s P & F meeting possible changes to the uniform were presented and discussed by those in attendance. Consideration of earrings, sock colour and the secondary girls winter uniform were slated for discussion. Students and staff will be surveyed regarding sock colour and this data along with the recommendation from the parent committee will be taken to the School Board meeting on 19 August. I am most grateful for the continued support of our families when it comes to our uniform. We have a proud tradition of maintaining an excellent standard but we do appreciate that times do change and trends come and go so we do not make any tweaks lightly.  If you have any issues with the uniform please contact me through the Front Office.

Sleep habits and Wellbeing

We should never underestimate the importance of positive sleep habits for our wellbeing and development. I have attached a fabulous article that highlights quite clearly the correlation between good sleep habits and progress in school. Please take some time to read this as we are regularly confronted with students who struggle to stay awake and focus on what is happening in class because they are sleep deprived. We can help set our children up for success with some understanding of what makes good and healthy sleep habits.
