From the Principal
The winter equinox has come and gone and now we can look forward to the days getting longer and hopefully the weather getting warmer! With only a week and a half to go until the holidays there is plenty still to get through before the semester break.
Pyjama Day
Tomorrow we will hold our final community breakfast for this term at 8am by sharing fruit toast and crumpets. Student are also able to wear pyjamas (preferably very warm ones!) for the price of a gold coin donation. The money raised will go to the Starlight Foundation to bring joy and delight to sick children.
Western Region Athletics Carnival
This Friday 28 June Sacred Heart will host the Western Region Athletics Carnival at Albert Park. Mrs Litchfield is the convenor and she has been working tirelessly to ensure that everything goes smoothly on the day. Over 40 of our Primary students will be competing against the other schools in our region and our senior PASS class will be assisting as well. We are always looking for additional volunteers to assist in the Canteen or on events or even selling raffle tickets. If you are available to give some time to assist we would love to hear from you.
Year 11 Hennessy 2020
Today our year 10 studenti will receive a note from Hennessy Catholic College Young inviting them to attend the information session for enrolment in Stage 6 for 2020. It is scheduled to be held on Thursday day 27 July at 6.30pm. This is the same day as our first Parent Teacher interviews but there are opportunities to work around this clash if you would like to attend the presentation in Young. This is an important opportunity to be informed about what they have to offer but also to gather information about the different subjects on offer for the senior years. The more information that you can get about pathways, school initiatives and opportunities and the different subjects the better. There is also the possibility of a taster day before the Subject Market but this is yet to be confirmed. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to ask.
Work of the Week
We have started a new initiative to promote the outstanding work that is happening across our school. Work of the week is a piece of work that has been nominated by class teachers as worthy of recognition. It can be in any discipline and is a way of promoting the very best learning that is happening at Sacred Heart. Already the first weeks have been very hotly contested. Harvey Hines of Year 7 is the first recipient of Work of the Week with his artwork depicting an event in Jesus’ life, titled Jesus walks on Water. It is an outstanding painting that showcases Harvey’s artistic talent and his understanding of this event in Jesus’ life.
Fr Joshy’s farewell.
Last week I announced that Fr Joshy would be leaving us in September to help lead the Goulburn Parish. The Cootamundra Parish will be farewelling Fr Joshy on 8 September with a Mass at 11am followed by a community lunch. We would love to invite as many of the school community as possible to the Farewell Mass. More details will be published in the newsletter as they are confirmed.
Sacred Heart Feast Day
The last day of the term (5 July) will be the celebration of Sacred Heart Feast Day. We will have a whole school Mass at 11.45am followed by a BBQ. Please join us as we celebrate all things great about our school. You are most welcome to share in the BBQ at the end of Mass. The students will then come together in their Houses to mark the day with an afternoon of trivia prepared by our senior leaders. At the conclusion, they will be dismissed to enjoy two weeks of rest and relaxation before returning for Term Three on TUESDAY 23 July.
In these frantic last days of the term it is timely advice to remember, if you can be anything…be kind!
