There is a youtube presentation doing the rounds at the moment on facebook. It is the inspirational message of Mr Neale Daniher. In his presentation to the Melbourne Football Players/Club he spoke of the message he would pass on to his new grandson Cooper. He speaks about the fact that life is not fair. Life is good but life is also hard. He calls on those listening to take responsibility for the opportunities when life is hard and to not blame someone else. This is the same message we want to gift our students. That we want them to rise above challenges and to be the best version of themselves. We want them to realise that there will be hard times and despite the challenges they will face (not if but when) they need to take responsibility for who they are in the world. Respect never goes out of style, neither does tolerance. We want this for our students. To make the world a better place and not be content to sit on the sidelines and tear others down out of ignorance and fear. We are trying very hard to address the bullying that seeps into our community and to teach all stakeholders that it is never okay to make anyone fell less than valued and important.

State member visit

Today we had a lovely visit from our State member Mrs Steph Cook. She spent a very brief time touring our school under the guidance of our school leaders. She was friendly and interested in our school and especially our students. She is the product of a central school education at St Anne’s and has an affinity with the country central school model. We hope she will be back to visit again and to see all the wonderful things that go on at Sacred Heart.

Athletics Carnival 2019

De la Salle reigned supreme again and were the champion house at our Annual Athletics Carnival last Wednesday. After first cancelling our carnival the week before we were nervous about the weather prospects for the new date. All our prayers were answered and the weather was a gift from God. A beautiful mild, sunny day was enjoyed by all in one our Best carnivals ever (and I have been to a lot of Sacred Heart Carnivals  - 25 in fact). The weather was wonderful, the participation was excellent and our students were fantastic. Thank you to all the families for joining us and to the staff for all their additional efforts to make the carnival such a success, especially Mrs Litchfield and Mrs Maxwell, the conveners of the carnival.

Confirmation 2019

This weekend 16 candidates will be presented to Fr Tony Percy for the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Saturday Vigil mass. Over the past month they have devoted time to their preparation under the guidance of Mr O’Brien. We are grateful for his gentle wisdom and passion for the Catholic Faith, and the care and support of our students.  Tomorrow afternoon they will complete their preparation with a twilight retreat here at school.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data.

As per Government regulations our staff have been very busy inputting information about the tailored personalised plans for students who learn in different ways and require additional support or modifications so that they have equal possibility of learning and achieving. It is universally accepted that children do not learn in the same way, at the same pace or even at the same time. A teachers’ responsibility is to make adjustments so that a student can access the curriculum with the best possible outcome. This is necessary to inform Australian Government recurrent funding for schools and for national reporting related to schools. Over the coming weeks some students for whom the personalised plans have been tailored will receive a copy of the plans sent to their parents that document all the adjustments put in place to support their child’s learning. This is an incredibly valuable way to stay informed about the different ways the school is providing the best educational outcomes for your child. You will be required to acknowledge receipt of this plan and return it to school. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions.

SPORTING Extravaganza

Over the past week we have had a wealth of different sporting activities. We had Small Schools Rugby League, Archdio Cross Country, Secondary Soccer Carnival, Mortimer Shield Final and so much more. Our students get so much opportunity and they excel when they set their hearts and minds to any challenge. Congratulations to all our athletes and good luck to those competing in Sydney in the CCC Cross Country over the next two days. More reports and photos to follow.

STAFF

Currently we have some staff enjoying leave. We wish Mrs Gehrig and Mrs Fry a wonderful time away and hope they return safely, refreshed and relaxed in the new term. Mrs Randall, Miss Hudson and Mrs Shields will be covering their classes.
