From the Principal

The days are definitely growing shorter but they are still jam-packed with goings-on at Sacred Heart.

FETE 29 March 2019

Last night there was a feverish meeting of a band of mothers trying to sort all of the necessary elements for the Biannual Fete on Friday 29 March 2019. They are in desperate need to finalise many of the orders and setup but need to have as many of the class donations confirmed before they source alternative resources. Each of the classes or stages have been allocated a different item for the variety of stalls and the chocolate wheel hampers. Please send in the requested items asap so that we do not need to spend our profits buying stall items or prizes. We are most grateful to the business community for their outstanding support of our Fete. We have received some amazing donations for our local businesses that time and time again get called on to support our community. A full list of sponsors will appear in a later newsletter.

A reminder about the different class/stage allocations:

INFANTS -  a bag or two of lollies

PRIMARY – Drinks

Year 7 – Pamper pack items - eg body wash, candles, etc

Year 8 – Pet Supplies – eg pet food, toys etc

Year 9 – Gardening – eg tools, seeds, pots etc

Year 10 Sports and Relaxation - eg magazines

Whole School – cakes and slices

Please contact your class representative if you are able to be of assistance on the night. It promises to be an excellent night full of entertaining activities, a variety of stalls and some fine food and fare.

PARENT-TEACHER-STUDENT INTERVIEWS

Next Tuesday afternoon 19 March the first of our Parent-Teacher-Students Interview forums will be held. This is an invaluable time to connect with the class teacher and to ascertain the habits, expectations and demands that are current for your child/student. The SessionKeeper booking program will be active from this afternoon and information will be sent home as to how to log on and secure a booking with the required teacher/s. The evening will run from 3.30pm until 7pm and we would love the opportunity to meet with as many parents as possible as we work together for the best outcomes for all our students. If you are unable to make this opportunity, then please contact the Front Office to make an alternative time. Please contact Ms Marsay or Mr Winsor if you have any queries concerning the system.

DISCO

A reminder that the First Term Discos will be held for Primary 5.30 – 7pm and Secondary 7 – 9pm at the Ex-Services Club. All tickets must be purchased at school before the night. The themes are:

PRIMARY – 80s and SECONDARY – When I Grow Up.

RICE DAY

Last Wednesday marked the start of Lent 2019 when we prepare spiritually for the gift of Easter. Our students shared a meal of rice to recognise that many others do not enjoy the lifestyle we often take for granted. The funds raised will support Mercy Works in Timor Leste where they struggle everyday with the limitations and challenges of poverty. Our School community raised $570.60.

IMPETIGO

A reminder that we have had an outbreak of the highly infectious impetigo. Please check your child/ren for any signs of infection because they will need to be removed from school until they are treated and covered.

Anti-Bullying Day & Harmony Day 15 March

Join us to say 'Bullying. No Way! Take action every day' - Friday 15 March

On Friday 15 March 2019, our school will stand together against bullying and violence to celebrate the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA). The NDA is Australia’s key anti-bullying event for schools. It is a positive day of action which strengthens our everyday message here at Sacred Heart that bullying and violence have no place.

At our school, we have a range of programs in place to address bullying, including Grow you Mind  and BeYou as well as the opportunity to hear inspirational speakers like John Coutis. On Friday at 11.45am the whole school will participate in a range of different activities highlighting indigenous games to promote inclusivity and that we need to be accepting of all. This, we hope, will build positive relationships across the school and empower our students and staff to speak out when they see bullying and to take action every day.  The students will also receive an ice cream to mark the occasion.

The NDA gives us an opportunity to put our programs in the spotlight and work together as a community (parents, teachers, staff and students) to talk about bullying and finding workable solutions together to address it.

Parents and carers are encouraged to visit the Bullying. No Way! website (www.bullyingnoway.gov.au) for advice and useful information

The NDA is about bringing our community together and to recognise the importance of standing together to say Bullying. No Way!

God bless

Mrs Nicky Trinder
