From the Principal

Lord, as I offer you all that is ordinary and everyday in my life,

I ask you to give me the power of your Spirit that I may do the

ordinary things of life in an extraordinary way.

Amen.

Week 8

Reminder about mobile phone use at school for students

Students are not to use their mobile phones whilst at school. This is to avoid inappropriate use (eg taking photos of others without permission), being distracted in class and because we value the importance of social interactions and talking with peers at break times rather than being on phones, etc. We are also mindful that students become upset at times after receiving a message which would be better received in person or with an adult to support.

If you need to get a message to your child during school hours, please contact the front office and they will ensure they receive the message. If your child needs to contact you, they are to report to the front office and will be able to phone you from the office.

The rules we have in place are: Any student found with their phone out at school (in class or on the playground) during school time (8.35am to 3.30pm) will have their phone confiscated. The phone will be left at the front office for student collection at the end of the day. Student names will be recorded in the mobile phone book at the office by the teacher who took the phone. If a student has their phone left at the front office more than twice, a parent will need to collect the phone. If the phone is not collected prior to 4.30pm when the front office usually closes, the phone will be locked away for the night and is to be collected by a parent in the morning.

If a student argues with a teacher about handing over the phone when requested, parents will be required to pick up the phone, rather than students being able to collect it themselves at the end of the day.

Please note: The front office ladies are doing the teachers and students a favour by returning the phone as requested by the teacher. ANY student who is not polite and well-mannered when requesting the return of their phone at the end of the day will be reported to Mrs Trinder and/or Mrs Cartwright and a further consequence put in place. If a teacher has recorded at the front office that the phone can only be collected by a parent, please DO NOT hassle the front office staff. Parents will receive a phone call to let them know this has occurred. If this phone call is made by front office staff it will be a courtesy call as Mrs Trinder or Mrs Cartwright are unable to make the call. Please be considerate of this and do not get angry at office staff for making this call.

Staffing

Ms Wendy Van Kerk Oerle will be teaching 1GH on Fridays during Term 4. We thank Wendy for taking on this extra role and know that 1GH will be well cared for by Heather and Wendy during Skye’s leave.

Letter to parents

A letter went home today with the youngest in each family (Secondary) with regards to students attending all classes and preparing for upcoming assessment periods. It is vital that students are in class and attempt to catch up missed work if needed. Gaps in learning occur quickly if students miss any class time and this has a major impact on their overall understanding and achievement. If you know in advance that your child will be absent, please email the classroom teacher or Year Mentor at least 2 weeks prior so that work can be provided if possible. Please read the letter carefully. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Invitation to Masses next week

We invite all parents, grandparents, family and friends to come along and enjoy our upcoming shared Masses. We will be having a combined Western Region Mass from 12noon on Tuesday 18 September and our Traditions Day Mass celebrations on Friday 21 September to start as soon after 11.45am as possible. Our Traditions Day Mass on Friday will be followed by a sausage sizzle and all are welcome.

With blessings,

Mrs Janet Cartwright
