Principal's Message
Another week over and it is passing all too quickly. Following on from the newsletter on Monday we are trying to capture all that is happening at school these past couple of days and all that is coming up. This week has been filled with special moments interviewing new enrolments for 2025. It is such a privilege and pleasure to meet new families who we welcome to our school community. 2025 is looking to grow our population and give so many more children the opportunity to have a Catholic education locally. We take our mission of providing a Catholic education very seriously and we strive to ensure that we continue to promote a culture of inclusivity, care and kindness. In coming weeks, starting the 12 September, we will begin the Orientation program for Kindergarten and then we will also begin the Year 7 program. Please inform anyone who might be interested in joining Sacred Heart to make contact about the transition programs if they would like to be involved.
Today the NAPLAN individual results will be issued to students who sat the testing program in March. Please carefully read the information that is contained in the report and speak to the class teacher to the Parent Teacher meetings in week 5 and 6 if you have any questions.
Teachers in our school will use the results from the national tests to better identify students who would benefit from greater challenges or extra support, and to analyse, monitor and take action to ensure every child’s ongoing learning needs are met. The School will also use the results to identify strengths and areas to improve in teaching programs, and to set goals in literacy and numeracy. This will help you better understand how your child’s learning is progressing, what they need to learn next, and how you can support your child to learn. Please be mindful that the tests were conducted in March and that your child’s development is likely to have progressed since then.
On Thursday our Kindergarten students went on an excursion to look at Muttama Creek and see what they could learn. The children were all very excited on the way there but also very tired on the way back. It was, to all reports, a fabulous learning experience. Hopefully we will have some photos for the newsletter next week. Thank you to the dedicated Infants Staff for providing this opportunity.
REMINDER: Don’t forget that in week 5 and 6 (Thursday 22nd and Tuesday 27th August) parents and students will have the opportunity to book interviews with the teachers to discuss the progress and development of their student/s. Booking will be made available on COMPASS in coming days and we encourage as many parents as possible to take advantage of this opportunity to acknowledge the successes and growth and the recommended strategies moving forward for the remainder of the year. Remember, if you have concerns or questions about your child’s learning you are always welcome to make contact with the teacher at any time but this is a valuable chance to have dedicated time to discuss your child’s progress.
Next week is a highlight in every primary child’s calendar – BOOK WEEK. And that can only mean ONE thing – the BOOK WEEK PARADE. This year’s theme is Reading is Magic and I am sure that there are some feverish planning going on in many homes as children choose their book week costume. You do not need to spend a lot of money to make a costume. Please check out St Vincent’s de Paul. They have past recycled costumes for sale if that helps. I know our staff are equally excited about dressing up. We love all things books and this is a wonderful and memorable way to celebrate the gift of reading.
A huge thank you to our generous sponsors who helped make our recent Production – Man of Steel such a success. We are so grateful for the financial support of our local businesses.
