From the Principal

Yamandhu….hello in Wiradjuri.

Another huge week in the life of Sacred Heart. Today we hosted the inter-school Public Speaking competition against St Annes Temora. Our students conducted themselves with distinction and we had three winners in the four different year groups. Congratulations to our winners and all the students who represented our school. Ella Sannazarro, Reuben Smith, Maryam Sa’oor will advance to the next round of speeches at St Mary’s in Young on 24th August. Thank you to Ms Long for coordinating the competition and to our wonderful adjudicators Ms Marsay and Mrs Hunt for their skills and passion. We will include a report in a newsletter very soon.

There has been a notification from Murrumbidgee Health that there are reported cases of Scarlet Fever in the community. Please be vigilant in monitoring for a red rash, a sore throat and high temperatures as symptoms of the bacterial infection. A fact sheet was sent out through COMPASS earlier in the week for reference. Also there have been additional cases of COVID also making the rounds of the school. Please monitor for symptoms and if your child is unwell please test and keep them at home until the symptoms subside. If you require additional RAT kits please contact the front office as we have a surplus but they will expire in the coming months.

Over the past weeks we have found it increasingly challenging to secure casual staff to replace staff on leave  - sick or long service leave. This has necessitated accessing a range of different teachers to cover classes to ensure that learning continues. Sometimes this is challenging for the students as they do not have a consistent teacher and it can be quite unsettling. Whilst we appreciate that this is the case we do expect them to behave appropriately and to continue to show respect for whoever is in front of their class.

On Tuesday 8th August we welcomed our Kindergarten 2024 families for our second parent information session. Mrs Chesworth, Ms McDonnell, Mrs Fry and Mrs Maher presented an exceptionally comprehensive run down of our transition program and all things to do with life in Kindergarten. We are indeed blessed to have such talented educators to support our littlest students on their journey. Thank you to some of our Year 9 students for their assistance in supervising the little people for the presentation.

This week we have our Year 7 2024 Information Session. We are hopeful that we will have lots of lovely new Year 7 students join our secondary school next year. The evening’s presentation will be held in the library at 6pm on Tuesday 15th August.

Staffing considerations for 2024 are currently under discussion at Catholic Education in Canberra. To support our staffing requests we would like to provide an accurate number of enrolments for the next academic year. If parents are considering discontinuing their child’s enrolment with us in the new year we would like you to make contact with the school to discuss your intentions. Likewise, if there are additional enrolments for any class across the school we would love to talk to those interested.

We are in desperate need of parent helpers to assist in the Canteen on Fridays which are our biggest day for lunch orders. We have relied on student helpers but this is not ideal. If you have anytime to spare on a Friday we would love to have you contact the front office to help our wonderful canteen staff.

Last night the Secondary Student Leadership Team hosted the disco for all secondary students. It was a wonderful night. The preparation that had gone into many of the costumes was outstanding and the students were impeccably behaved. Thank you to the staff who came along to help supervise and to the Student Leadership Team and Ms Marsay who organized the event.

Please remember that the SCHOOL TIE is part of the school uniform. We expect that all students wear the school tie with their winter uniform and that they wear it correctly.

There is always a reason to be kind and that we may never realise or understand the benefit that it may have to someone’s day if we are kind.

God Bless

Ms Nicky Trinder
