From the Principal
Yamandhu….hello in Wiradjuri.
As week 4 closes we have been experiencing a dramatic rise in the number of illnesses, viruses and other maladies that our community is sharing. We are encouraging the students/staff to return to strict personal hygiene routines. If students are sick especially with highly contagious viruses like vomiting bugs please arrange to keep students at home until they are symptom free. We have had a record number of students presenting at sick bay and this necessitates a phone call home to be collected. Like most schools we are experiencing an acute shortage of casual staff and we are striving to keep the classrooms functioning as normal as possible so that teaching and learning are not interrupted. Over the past couple of days though we have had to combine some classes to ensure that we have a teacher in front of all classes and that learning is happening. Other schools have had a significant number of covid cases and we are hoping that we may escape the same fate.
On Monday 29 May there will be a recreation of the walk from Cootamundra Train Station to Bimbedeen for the First Nation girls of the Stolen Generation. This is a Cootamundra schools project and we are excited to be a part of this significant event in recognizing the experiences of our First Nation people. More details will be sent home to the students participating as they come to hand. There will be presentations and games at Bimbedeen and a shared lunch for all involved.
A reminder that our Annual Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday 25 May at Albert Park for all of our students. Our Kinder and Year 1 students will come to school as normal and will walk to the park with their teachers and return for normal pick up. All other students will make their way to the Park for a day of competition and activity. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and we can have a lovely pleasant day. We will be seeking assistance to help run events and in the canteen so keep an eye out for opportunities to volunteer. We have been unable to secure timing gates for the track events so we are desperate for enough volunteers to manage the timekeeping requirements for each race. Our students have been busy practicing their athletic skills and training for the different events. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us.
Another reminder about uniform and the expectation that students wear the correct uniform on the nominated days and that they are not just choosing to wear the sports uniform whenever they choose and it is not a sport day. If this is unavoidable then students are asked to present a note from home explaining the reason for being our of uniform.
Please ensure that you have made payments on Term One fees as the second term fees have been emailed out to all familied. If this is a challenge then please make an appointment to meet with me at your earliest convenience to discuss options and plans.
Please remember that there is always a reason to be kind and that we may never realise or understand the benefit that it may have to someone’s day if we are kind.
God Bless
Ms Nicky Trinder
