Mortimer Shield

A compass event has been sent out for those students in Stage Three who wish to play in the Mortimer Shield League or League Tag. This year it is played as a Gala Day and there will be no advancements. As a result boys will play 7-a-side, compared to previous years of 13. If you have any questions about this change feel free to email me.

Attendance at Extracurricular Sporting Events

Attending extracurricular sporting events as a Sacred Heart Representative is a privilege not a right. Please be aware that students with poor attendance, behaviour and/or with incomplete tasks and class work will not be allowed to attend these opportunities. For students who are away for any reason or who do attend these opportunities, it is an expectation that missed work is caught up and completed within a reasonable time frame after returning to school.

Representative Trials

Congratulations to Cooper Jones who trialled for the NSWCCC U16 Boys Basketball on Tuesday. Unfortunately with 85 participants, Cooper was unsuccessful in getting selected. The quality of the players was impressive and Cooper learnt a lot from the experience.

Riverina Schools Orienteering Day

It is the first time we have attended an Orienteering Day and after experiencing such an event it will definitely not be the last. The Stage 5 Outdoor Education elective class competed in the day as part of their course work.

We started with an introductory walk around and some instructions on how the event, maps and timing system worked. Students then competed in their age and gender division as individuals. They were given a map just before they started and then had to work their way around the course finding control points as they went. These controls had to be found in order and registered with their timer to prove they had been there. The times were recorded by the computer system and places were allocated.

Then we had the relay event. There were 3 people in a relay team and all had to complete a different course. The first runner took off with every other first runner. They had their team’s timer and completed their course in the order on their map. Then made their way back to the change over and gave the team’s timer to the next runner. The second runner then ran to get their map to complete their course and hand off for the third runner to bring ot home. It was an exciting spectacle to be a part of.

For our first attempt we had some very impressive results and it is something to look forward to next year.

Here are our results from the day:
