To coincide with the Coota Beach Volleyball weekend next year, SHC will be hosting a schools event on the Friday before, 17th Feb 2023. There will be a Stage 3 division in Newcombe-Ball, and Stage 4, 5 and 6 divisions in 6-a-side Mixed Volleyball.

If there are any parents or community member that would like to assist with committee roles or as a volunteer on the day, could you please contact the front office on 69422612 or email megan.withers@cg.catholic.edu.au or brad.winsor@cg.catholic.edu.au. Thanks in advance.

Rugby Touch 7s

Today students participated in the Brumbies touch 7s competition. We had 4 stage two teams who showed great sportsmanship throughout the day. Thank you also to those secondary students who helped referee. They showed great skill and have been offered to join the brumbies any time they require assistance.

CG trials of 2023

It is an opportunity for stage three students in 2023 to trial for representative sport. We have been successful in the past in students being selected to represent at such a high stage. Some of the trial dates for 2023 will start at the end of this year. If you are interested and wish to register please visit CSNSW Sport Portal. If you have any questions or wish to have more information, please don't hesitate to contact me.

CRICKET

Congratulations to Paddy Crawford and Oliver Daley for their participation in the cricket trials held last week. Unfortunately neither boys were successful in making it to the next level of selections. However they represented the school with great respect and sportsmanship.

Olympics Unleashed visit

Rohan Chapman-Davies visited our secondary students on Friday as part of the Olympics Unleashed program.

Olympics Unleashed connects athletes with schools across the country to inspire students to find and follow their passion and provide lessons in goal setting, overcoming challenges and developing resilience.

Rohan is a Freestyle Skier in the Mens Moguls and has competed on the world stage for over 14 years. He has produced impressive results in many competitions including competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. Read about Rohan in his bio at https://www.olympics.com.au/olympians/rohan-chapman-davies/

During the visit, Rohan talked about his Olympic journey and overcoming challenges to compete in his chosen sport at the highest level to help inspire the students to be the best they can be – whether that’s in school, at home, on the sporting field or with friends. The students asked great questions about Rohan’s training, tricks and travel experiences.

Rohan then enjoyed playing sport with some of the Year 8 students.

Student takeaways:

“Before a run he would clear his mind of everything else and just focus on three things he can control in his run” John McGuinness Year 8

“Mogul skiing is more complicated than he first thought” Archie Blackman Year 8

“He had to focus on his recovery so that he could go back at close to 100% without little injuries” Patrick Golden Year 8

“He was encouraging people to reach their goals and took the time to mentally reset [when he was recovering from his injury]” Jay Lockett Year 8
