From the Principal

The school is a hive of activity as we try to cram as much learning and activity into the end of the term. Today we have made over 4800 lamingtons, watched an impressive presentation of year 2’s learning at their annual assembly, acknowledged the excellent work and attitudes of our Primary students with the assembly awards, enjoyed an Indigenous performance celebrating aboriginal culture and history, welcomed beautiful Sam Clark and his mother back from Sydney with a Q&A session about his treatment and experiences at the Children’s hospital and still managed to squeeze in some learning. The rest of the week was equally jam-packed with wonderful activities and learning. Everyone will have earned a restful and peaceful holiday at the latter end of next week. Everyone has done their very best this term to make the most of every opportunity that has been afforded to them, be it academic, sporting or cultural. We are grateful for the chance to experience so many different things over the past 9 weeks. Next term promises to be just as full so we hope that everyone has the chance to recharge their batteries over the winter holiday period.

Next Thursday 30 June will be a second protected industrial action staged by the Independent Educators Union in conjunction with the Teachers Federation (the public school union). On Tuesday 28 June I will inform the community of the level of supervision that will be available. Please keep an eye out for that important piece of information. Friday 1 July is, as already advertised, a pupil-free day to support the planning and collaboration for the remainder of the year. This additional professional learning day was granted by Catholic Education in many dioceses. There will be no supervision available on Friday.

Don’t forget the Circus event that will be held at school on 10 July to mark the Year of the Family. As a Western Deanery (regional churches) initiative the Office of the Archbishop and the different parishes will offer the opportunity, free of charge, for families to enjoy a circus together on 10 July  - the middle Sunday of the school holidays. At 2pm on Sunday afternoon a local family circus  - Circus McCabe – will be set up on the secondary school lawn (entry via Sutton st) for a two hour show. More details will be made available as they come to hand.

On Tuesday night we hosted our first Kinder 2023 Information Session. It was lovely to meet some of the prospective parents of our newest enrolments for next year. Thank you to Mrs Chesworth and Ms McDonnell for their informative presentation about all things Kinder. We are very proud of the school that we have and the privilege of sharing in the lives of so many families and it was great to be able to showcase all that Sacred Heart has to offer. Already we have many parents enrolling and visiting the school to look at our wonderful facilities and school. If you know of anyone who is interested in seeing what we have to offer please encourage them to make an appointment at their earliest convenience. A huge thank you to our student leadership team for providing babysitting and to Emma Shields who spoke so passionately and genuinely about her experience of and love for the opportunities that the school has given to her.

This Saturday night our Confirmation Candidates will receive the sacrament from Fr Lolesio at the 5pm Parish Mass. This is an important celebration in their faith journey and we wish them the richest of God’s blessings. We would love you to join with them to help celebrate this important event. We pray that God continues to hold them in the palm of his hand. Thank you to Mrs Maxwell, Mrs McLeod, Mrs Niddrie, Mrs Winsor, Sr Kathy and Father Lolesio for all the effort and prayer that has gone into their preparation.

Next Wednesday we will celebrate Sacred Heart Feast Day with Mass at 12noon. This will be followed by a celebratory sausage sizzle. Families are most welcome to join us for Mass.

Next week we will begin the preparation for a complete replacement of the Primary school roof. It is still the original iron from when our school first opened many, many years ago. It has held up considerably well but it is definitely time for a new roof. The stormwater around the building will begin next week in preparation for the roof work on 25 July. There will be some juggling of classrooms as we make the site safe for the work to progress. We are very grateful to Catholic Education for the finances to proceed with the work at a cost of over $300,000. Next week we will also have a team of architects visiting to survey the school to build a master plan for future refurbishment. Towards the end of the year we will be applying for a BGA (Building Grant Authority) approval and finance to do significant work on the Primary building to bring it in line with the exceptional facilities in Infants. Much work will need to be done to be eligible for the Grant but we are hopeful, that with CE support, we can secure one to complete this important major work.

Annually we are required to advise all parents and guardians that the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment will collect certain information about your child’s school, its staff and student body. It is collected in accordance with the Australian Education Act 2013 to ensure correct funding, conduct research and meet reporting obligations. Please read the letter attached regarding the process and what you need to do.

We continue to keep families who are struggling with illness in our prayers and hope that God continues to hold them in the palm of his hand.

“Be kind. Be fair. Be honest. Be true. And all of these things will come back to you. Remember what goes around, comes around.” Kindness is never wasted.

God Bless

Ms Nicky Trinder
