From the Principal
What an epic term we have had! Lots of learning, lots of experiences and lots of memories. As we enter the winter holidays we thank all the student, parents and staff for all they have given to this semester and the continual support for the education of our students. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful school and such dedicated parents and staff. Term Three is already packed full of different learning and activities and we look forward to meeting all the challenges that it will offer. Today every student should have brought home the Semester Report and accompanying paperwork. Please take time to go over the report with your student and pay careful consideration to the Engagement with Learning criteria and work habits. They are the very clearest way to ascertain the effort and application that is happening in the classroom. Details about Parent/Teacher interviews are also contained in the envelopes and we hope to see as many parents and students as possible to help them move forward in their learning. The logins are listed below. Please make contact with the school if you do not receive your report/s by the end of term. Academic excellence awards will be mailed home in coming days.

This Friday 25 June at 10am we will celebrate our School’s Feast Day – the Feast of the Sacred Heart. The school community will come together for Mass to be followed by a BBQ lunch and then K-10 activities. This is a lovely way to finish the term and we hope that all students will be present to mark this special occasion as a student body. Parents and friends are most welcome to join us but please remember to sign in with the QR
I have had the privilege this past few days of taking new Kinder families for 2022 through the school as they begin the transition program for their young children to school. We are very hopeful of having a large cohort for 2022 but planning for staffing is already well underway and we are considering class structures. We hear lots of snippets of information about students coming and going but we would really appreciate if we could have confirmation of this to accurately plan for the next academic year. So for anyone who knows of any prospective enrolments for 2022 to please make contact with the school and likewise, please contact the school if your child has alternative intentions for schooling for 2022.
We are still finalising staff replacements for Semester Two. Much of this is out of our control as we wait for advertisements to close and the application process to happen. I appreciate that this is frustrating for many classes that may be impacted but please trust us to be sourcing the very best outcomes for all concerned. As soon as we know I will inform the school community.
Next semester we will be moving to a different online management system called COMPASS. Those parents who have had students move through Hennessy Catholic College in Young will be familiar with the program and the different services, processes and opportunities that it will offer. In the first instance it will have the greatest impact on attendance information and the collating of student information. In time we will transition through to reporting and different modes of communication slowly phasing out the systems and processes that we currently use. It is very well supported by Catholic Education and there is a wealth of help information as parents gradually become familiar with the processes. A parent portal will be made available in Term 3 and all information will be funnelled through this portal including access to reports and attendance information. Stay tuned for further information as it comes to hand.
We are still very concerned about the topical issue of vaping. It appears endemic throughout our town and we know that many young people in town have access to or can get access to vaping products. Please be vigilant in talking with your child/ren about this issue and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school. We aim to have some educational presentations around vapes, vaping, their use and their harmful effects in the coming term. The police are regularly in contact regarding matters affecting the youth of this town and we strive to work with them to protect our young people.
Also attached to the newsletter is a link regarding the DESE requirement to share a privacy notice with parents/guardians. Please ensure that you have read this carefully as this is an Australian Government requirement that we notify all parents regarding the collection of information. Please contact the school if you would like further information regarding the various data collections that occur as per legislation. (Australian Education Act 2013 (the Act) and the Australian Education Regulation 2013 (the Regulation)
Please have a wonderful, happy and safe holiday. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday 13 July. The Front Office will be staffed on Monday 12 July whilst staff complete professional learning.
Remember: If you can be anything…be kind!
God Bless!
