Athletics Carnival - Seeking a Generator
To run the timing gates, we are requiring a smallish, quiet generator that could run a laptop, printer and the gates. If you have one that could be suitable and available to borrow, would you please contact megan.withers@cg.catholic.edu.au or call on 69422612 as soon as possible.
Also, we would really appreciate any parents that can help assist with the running of field events at the athletics carnival to please contact either Megan Withers megan.withers@cg.catholic.edu.au or Wendy Van Kerk Oerle wendy.vankerkoerle@cg.catholic.edu.au.
Thank you in advance.

NSWCCC Rugby League
Well done to Darcey O’Toole for trialing for the NSWCCC Rugby League team last week. Unfortunately he missed out on selection however played really well from all accounts. Darcey and the team were given a tour of the Panthers Academy training facilities as part of their training experience. The team got to sit in the rooms where players have the breakdown of games, visit the locker rooms, ice baths for recovery, the gym for training and got to see the NRL Premiership Trophy the Panthers’s won. Congratulations on this achievement.
Interschools Summer Biathlon
Congratulations to Brock Holder and Corey Gale, for participating in Sacred Hearts first Interschools Team Summer Biathlon event in Wodonga last Friday. Organisers also ran a Top Shot Laser Shooting and Top Shot Metal Silhouette Long Range Shooting contest on the day
The boys were very successful. They both placed in the top 6 for the Top Shot Laser Shooting competition and placed first for the best school average in the Metal Silhouette Long Range Shooting competition, both shooting 10/10 targets.
The main event was the Summer Biathlon Sprint Relay, combining running and rifle shooting. It was such an interesting event to watch. Each competitor runs a 300 m lap and shoots 5 shots at an 11.5 cm target placed 50m away. For each missed shot a penalty loop (approximately 30m) is run before tagging their partner. Both competitors complete 2 cycles each, before tagging and joining their partner to complete a final lap crossing the finish line together.
It was odd hearing spectators call out for competitors to slow down in a foot race. Runners need to slow down before the rifle shooting so they can control their breathing and heart rate to keep steady on the shot.
The boys qualified first in their division even with their shooting accuracy below what they usually shoot. They went into the final with determination and focus and won by nearly a full lap. This made them the National Interschools Summer Biathlon Sprint Relay Junior Champions for 2021. Well done to both boys.
Before the end of the day, some students demonstrated a Roller Ski Biathlon. The roller skis simulate the feeling of completing a Winter Biathlon with Cross Country Snow Skiing. The technical aspects of prone rifle shooting with ‘skis’ on and ski poles, looked very difficult. Please enjoy the photos.
