Young Soccer carnival
Thank You to those who brought their notes in for the Young soccer carnival. If you are able to assist with transport or on the day please let me know, by emailing wendy.vankerkoerle@cg.catholic.edu.au. We have quite a few teams entered. Students will need to have their own shin pads, boots and socks (coota blue soccer ones will be fine). The carnival will be held Friday 14th May at the Young soccer fields.
Mortimer shield
Mortimer shield, for our stage three students will be held at Keith Cullen Oval, Young on the 27th May. Again if you are able to assist as a manager or with transport please send an email to wendy.vankerkoerle@cg.catholic.edu.au. Boys will need a mouthguard and headgear, girls will play tag league. We will run some training sessions at lunch times.
If for any reason your child has missed a note to either of these events please let their classroom teacher know.
Sporting Trials
Congratulations to Ryder Gillers and Spohie Sanazzaro for trailing out for different NSWCCC teams. Ryder tried out for Rugby League and was unsuccessful at the second level. Sophie tried out for soccer and was again unsuccessful at the second level. She also tried out for touch football this week. And has made it past the first trails and will now try out for NSWCCC.
This is a huge achievement for both of these students as they competed for a place in their respective teams against students from all catholic schools in NSW.
Primary Sport Dates

Rugby League
Congratulations to Darcey O’Toole for making the U15’s Southern Country Rugby League team. Congratulations to Sam Gash, representing the U18’s Rugby League Presidents team. Both gentlemen will be competing at the NSWCCC Rugby League Selection Tournament on the 20-21st May at St Marys in Sydney. Congratulations and good luck!
Congratulations
Congratulations to Alex Oliver for being named first shadow player for the Opens NSWCCC Basketball team on Monday 3rd May. This is a massive achievement considering Alex is in Year 10 and students can be selected from all of NSW Catholic school students from Year 10 to Year 12. Well done Alex.
Congratulations to Zara English who was named as a shadow player for the Wagga/Canberra Goulburn Open Girls Soccer team. This is again an Opens team with students mostly from Year 12 selected in the squad. Well done Zara.
Archdiocesan Soccer Gala Day
Congratulations to our teams who competed in the CG Soccer Gala day in Canberra on Monday. The students represented Sacred Heart impeccably.
There will be some photos to view below, however, my camera was going flat and I only got photos from one game. If any parents have any photos I could include in next week's newsletter I would very much appreciate you sending them to megan.withers@cg.catholic.edu.au. Thanks in advance.
Results
The 7-8 Girls team played 4 games and although they did not manage to win any games they all improved and had moments of individual brilliance.
The 9-10 Girls team played 4 games also. They drew 2 games 1-1, won one game 6-1 and lost the last game 1-3. The last game was played essentially as a final, and was to determine the overall winners of the day. Congratulations for placing second overall.
The 7-10 Boys team played 3 games. They won the first 4-0, drew the second game 0-0 and fought hard to come back from 2-0 down to draw at 2-2. This placed them second in their pool and unfortunately did not advance through to the final.
